Decades after “A River Runs Through It,” a new memoir from the fly-fishing Maclean family has us hooked.

Written by Jenn Thornton

When it was released, Norman Maclean’s “A River Runs Through It” was a pretty big fish, eventually making its way to Hollywood, where it was adapted for a Robert Redford-helmed film starring Brad Pitt. Following in his father’s footsteps, avid fly fisherman John N. Maclean revisits similar territory with his new memoir, “Home Waters: A Chronicle of Family and a River.” This includes, as depicted in beautifully written passages, Montana’s magnificent Blackfoot River that saw generations of Macleans come of age. Including color photographs of Big Sky, this ode to family and the natural world is a great gift for Dad.
